The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
