That Gory Animated Film Conclusion That Stays With Viewers
Among every mature cartoon movies I’ve personally viewed, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the fear-filled conclusion of a graphically gory and overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, this Spanish filmmaker developed a dark, melancholy and frequently brutal world with several minor , desolate hints of hope.
While The Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from a drive to advance animation further, the filmmaker clarified that it was rather a try to express a widespread, cross-cultural message regarding “the common origin of all wars.”
That message is communicated via a squad of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously based on a famous series of lovable figures.
Growing up in a culture built around warmongering and the military-industrial complex, numerous the bears are obsessed with exterminating the mythical beasts, thanks to a holy book which states the bears they previously were kings of the forest, until these creatures forced them out.
Some did not entirely accepted the indoctrination, and prefer to experiment with drugs or fornicate in the forest.
Unlike their friendly counterparts, these bright beings show sexual organs and obvious sex drives.
For a particular notably brutal, cynical bear, the bear named Bluey, the war against unicorns becomes a path to control — and specifically to authority over his softer, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.
The character behaves aggressively , an apparent antisocial figure , and as fear overcomes his group and claims his fellow soldiers individually, he takes more and more influence for himself, through ever more bloody, destructive ways.
Simultaneously, these mythical beings are experiencing their own terror, through an expanding, destructive monster in their habitat.
“At the beginning, it feels like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker commented. “But then it evolves into a more intense and sad film. And by the end, it’s a horror film.”
Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like one of the more playful features from an iconic animator, that uncover a mischievous joy in letting animated figures swear, shoot each other, or have intimate relations.
Afterward it turns into closer to a darker film from that artist, featuring progressively visual gore , a tangible link to the real tragedy of battle.
By the end, it’s an outright Grand Guignol carnage.
The horror which makes the film an ideal spooky-season movie kicks in much sooner than one might expect.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore gorehounds, for fans of intense movies who wish to see a film they have not watched previously, and can endure a story that pulls absolutely no punches.
Watch it in a dark room with no disturbances, and the conclusion will dig into your mind and linger.
