Seamer Atkinson Exacerbates England's Injury Worries.

'Significant concern' for the English camp after Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer added to the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the ground early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson pulled up with his left hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled at the MCG.

Team management indicated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the series beginning on 4 January gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.

England have been without key quicks Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer because of a side injury during this series.

A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, taking just three wickets.

He was omitted of the third Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 with the bat among just a trio of England players to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he came back the next day and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.

However, at the end of the fifth over, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
