Voter-Approved Measure Assigns Power to State Lawmakers

This initiative, Proposition 50, was approved by the electorate on Tuesday evening, representing a decisive victory for Democrats. The plan grants on a temporary basis the authority to delineate electoral boundaries to the state's legislative body, enabling it to approve maps that are expected to assist the Democratic party pick up five seats in the US House of Representatives.

Countermeasure to Gerrymandering in Texas

The plan is a direct response to partisan redistricting in Texas, where GOP lawmakers, at the US president’s behest, have carved out a number of new districts favoring Republicans.
