NY Launches Online Platform for Residents to Share ICE Images After Arrests of Four American Citizens

The state attorney general has launched a recent reporting form asking locals to submit photos and videos of immigration raids around the state. This action comes just a shortly after a high-profile enforcement action disrupted NYC's Chinatown, triggering large-scale demonstrations.

American Citizens Held In Raid

A congressional representative announced during a midweek briefing that four US citizens were arrested and held for "nearly 24 hours" following the enforcement action. Rallies erupted in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

"Each citizen has the right to exist without intimidation," state officials stated in a release.

"Anyone who observed and captured federal operations during the raid, I urge you to submit that material with us. We are dedicated to reviewing these accounts and determining any violations of law."

Portal Features

The form provides options to send visual evidence of the operation, along with a section to note geographic details. When submitting, users must check a option that acknowledges that "authorities could utilize any materials, images, or footage in a public document, including in a legal proceeding or public report."

Details of the ICE Action

The Chinatown raid, which observers say involved over fifty federal agents, occurred in a famous district of the city where imitation products and other goods are commonly traded widely – often to tourists.

Recordings of Tuesday's raid reveal numerous masked and armed personnel zip-tying and detaining a person, and forcing aside onlookers. Crowds of residents pursued the officers down the sidewalks. An armored truck was noticed traveling down the city streets.

Leadership Statements

In a news conference organized with the New York immigrant rights coalition, congressman Dan Goldman, a Democrat, announced that four US citizens were taken by federal agents for nearly 24 hours and that there were "no situations where US citizens should be detained for unjustly." He noted the citizens were let go on the following day with no legal action taken.

"The goal is evident here. It is not to take criminals off the street," Goldman stated. "This represents a militarized effort to create conflict. It is merely a pretext to incite violence for the government to deploy the armed forces to stop unrest that they have created."

Broad Criticism

Outrage over the ICE raid quickly spread – every NYC mayor hopefuls criticized the operation, as did Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Yet again, the current administration selects oppressive displays that instill panic, instead of protection. It needs to cease," a contender declared.

New York City advocacy organizations expressed outrage as well.

"Federal officers raided Manhattan's Chinatown with military-style vehicles, masked agents and riot gear to target small merchants working to survive. This action had nothing to do with community security and everything to do with terrorizing immigrant families and neighborhoods," said the leader of a advocacy group.

Agency Rules

ICE policy bans the detention of US citizens and the organization has said it will not arrest or detain citizens. However, independent reporting has discovered that over 170 US citizens have been held against their will by ICE during the period of the present government.

Recent Pattern

Enforcement actions have been cropping up increasingly in NY and across the US recently.

A recent action in midtown Manhattan was the earliest reported action on an immigrant shelter of the present government. Demonstrations targeting immigration enforcement are ubiquitous including allegations of violence and abusive practices.

Latest, a letter provided by legal entities alleged medical neglect of women with child in government custody.
