Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:

  • Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
