Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

Price's death comes shortly after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
