Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
